DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 3992B, 22J, World War II era Navigation Master Watch made for British military use, 16S, chrome-plated base metal OF original case with Hydrographic Services (HS3) contract markings which have been overscored on rear, painted metal decimal style re-dial executed in 1970s era for UK Royal Navy "Work Study" use, SW-hack-set, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with Elinvar hairspring, mvt marked "U.S. Govt," striped pattern nickel damascene, s#3C1377. Comes with an unmarked fitted wooden box. A strong example of this British military timepiece, this watch would have begun life as a Navigation Master Watch but in the 1970s was repurposed along with a number of other 3992B's with the addition of the present decimal style dial and updating of case rear markings for use in "Work Study" at the Royal Navy dockyards. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered micro-fine scratches to plates; flawless dial; nearly flawless hands; case components with mismatched serial numbers with rear having s#571011 and band with s#0005622, case shows very light wear, few fine scratches to rear, no dents or dings, crisp contract marking detail that lines up properly in upright orientation to pendant when rear is threaded closed, original circular rear finish is intact; tight bow, crown shows little wear; clean plastic crystal; box in fine condition overall, fine split to front of upper lid, typical scratches, scapes and wear from ample use.
